About Our Coaches
Coach Michael Spruill - Varsity Soccer was the original Soccer Coach at Lamar in 1975, before it was classified as a UIL sport. He coached two years before leaving the soccer program to be the Athletic Coordinator at Shackelford Junior High for the next several years. During that time he married Donna, his wife of 29 years, a kindergarten teacher in AISD. His daughter, Kristen is currently attending TCC in Arlington. He re-joined the Lamar staff in 1994 as the Head Soccer Coach and as a Varsity Football assistant. He is now coaching with the Freshmen Football staff. Coach has lived in Arlington all his life and graduated from Arlington High School and UT-Arlington.

Coach Chris Boyd - JV Soccer
Chris Boyd has spent 19 years in the coaching profession at five different high schools, including Midlothian, Arlington, Heath, Cedar Hill, and Ennis. He won two 4A State Championships while an assistant varsity coach at Ennis and coached in the Texas High School Coaches Association All-Star Game for the South.
Boyd attended Brownwood High School, where he participated in football, basketball, and track. He is a 1991 graduate of Howard Payne University with a B.S. in History and Education.
Boyd’s father is head coach and athletic director at Cooper High School and his mother is a retired teacher and basketball coach. He and his wife, Dana, have three children: Bryce, Brady, and Brock.
Coach Collin Lackey - JV 2 Soccer
Collin Lackey was previously employed at Gunn Junior High since 2005, where he was responsible for the offensive line and linebackers.
Before coming to Gunn, Lackey held a number of coaching positions at Covenant Christian Academy in Colleyville. From 2004 to 2005, he was the varsity receivers coach, varsity basketball coach, and head golf coach. He was also the head junior high football and basketball coach for the Cougars. Covenant won the TAPPS 3A State Championship for girls’ basketball in 2005.
Lackey graduated from Mansfield High School in 1995, where he played football and golf. He received a B.S. in Exercise and Sports Studies from Tarleton State University in 2003. His wife of two years, Courtney, works as a CPA.
